授業の目的?内容 ／Course Objectives	This course will focus on the history and culture of Japanese art with emphasis on Edo-period painting. To accommodate each lecture, and to aid students in gaining an understanding of the principal styles and characteristics of paintings, numerous slides will be shown featuring examples of representative works. Supplemental readings and associated exercises will be provided to ensure comprehension of specialized terms and to facilitate an understanding of historical and cultural context. By the completion of the course, students will be able to identify and distinguish principal painting styles and their features and to convey this understanding in an articulate and informed manner.
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Classes will in principle be held live and in person on the Dokkyo University campus. Students will have the option to attend face-to-face or remotely, via Zoom (live or in special circumstances through on-demand video recordings). English-language captioning of the English-language lectures will be provided. Lecture outlines and supplementary readings will be made available for download via the classroom management platform Edmodo, which students will easily be able to sign in to and gain access. Three quizzes and a final test as well will be administered online through Edmodo.

You are not required to purchase a textbook. Students are expected to complete all assigned readings prior to each class.
